Ride to Thrive

Ride to Thrive

Our Youth Development Program at Big Air Bike Park

Big Air Bike Park is more than a place to ride – it's a place to grow. Ride to Thrive is our community-based youth development program that uses bikes, mentoring and hands-on skills to help young people build confidence, resilience and a real sense of belonging.

What Is Ride to Thrive?

Ride to Thrive helps young people who need it most. Through weekly sessions at Big Air Bike Park, participants build the skills and social connections that set them up for a stronger future — on and off the bike.

We focus on improving wellbeing, school engagement, social participation and future employment opportunities. This isn't a one-off workshop. It's a structured, supported pathway for young people who may be at risk of disengagement.

Who Is Ride to Thrive For?

The program is designed for young people aged 12–15 who may be experiencing:

  • Social isolation or difficulty connecting with peers

  • Early signs of disengagement from school

  • Limited access to recreational opportunities

  • Personal or family difficulties

No riding experience required. No gear required. We provide everything needed to participate.

What Happens in the Program?

Participants attend weekly sessions at Big Air Bike Park and take part in:

  • BMX, scooter, and skate coaching — building skills and confidence on the park

  • Bike maintenance and mechanical workshops — real hands-on trade skills

  • Barista and hospitality skill development — pathways to employment

  • Food safety training and accredited learning — recognised qualifications

  • Resilience, wellbeing, and personal development — tools for life

  • Team-building and community projects — connection and purpose

Every participant also receives free access to Big Air Bike Park for the duration of the program and the following school holiday period — the equivalent of two full terms of access. Bikes, scooters, helmets, and equipment are all provided, so every young person can take part regardless of their family's circumstances.

How to Refer a Young Person

Ride to Thrive accepts referrals from a range of sources:

  • Schools and educators

  • NSW Police

  • Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ)

  • Youth services and community organisations

  • Direct family enquiry

Accepted participants receive:

  • Access to all program activities

  • Use of bikes, scooters, helmets, and equipment

  • Support from qualified coaches, mentors, and community partners

  • Opportunities to gain certifications and ongoing support beyond the program

Our Partners

Ride to Thrive is delivered by Big Air Bike Park in partnership with local schools, community organisations, government agencies and industry partners who share a commitment to helping young people reach their full potential.

Big Air Indoor Bike Park is proud to be a recipient of the Strong and Resilient Communities (SARC) Grant, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services. This funding supports the delivery of our Ride to Thrive program, which provides young people with opportunities to develop confidence, resilience, practical life skills and positive community connections through cycling, coaching, mentoring and educational activities. The grant enables us to remove barriers to participation and create meaningful opportunities for young people across our region.
